Using an electronic reader in South Africa

The only place to order a Kindle from is Amazon, don`t let South African dealers pull a fast one on you; chances are they also ordered through Amazon and have just marked the device up.

They will tell you that because they ordered in bulk they are saving you the shipping costs, do yourself a favour, check out the link below, I am certain that by ordering directly from Amazon will actually save you a few bucks.
Beware of the rubbish that retailers and other naysayers will attempt to feed you. Some of the common myths are:

1. "Amazon does not ship to South Africa." This is simply not true. Amazon will ship to South Africa from its USA and European stores.

2. "Kindle is not officially available in South Africa." The Kindle was officially launched in South Africa in 2009.

3. "Shipping from the USA is risky and costly if the package is stopped by S.A. Customs" If anything goes wrong with the shipping, Amazon will send you a replacement. All items are shipped to South Africa using reputable couriers; your Kindle will be at your door in about a week or two. I have yet to hear of anyone being charged by customs for a Kindle. It is an IT item and is not subject to ad valorem taxes.

Remember to tell Amazon what country you are in when ordering the Kindle (Live outside of the US option).

For my brothers in other far flung locals, the Kindle works great for you to, connectivity in Kenya is great as well as any other place with 3G connectivity The Amazon services are light on their network demands and the Kindle 3 is a great way to get reading material when you are far from a book store.

Some features include:

Built In Dictionary with Instant Lookup
It is virtually impossible to carry a dictionary with any book you read, but the Kindle comes with all necessary information for a reader. The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 definitions is incorporated with the device so that you are never interrupted while reading again to look up a word in a dictionary

Wireless Access to Wikipedia
With the purchase of an Amazon kindle in South Africa the worlds most exhaustive and up-to-date encyclopedia, Wikipedia.org is at your finger tips, it comes built in with Kindle and you can look up people, places, events , and more from anywhere.

Search
Kindle has a QWERTY keyboard which makes it easy to search within a book, within your library, in the web or in the Kindle Store.
