Kindle E-Book Reader

It was Amazon that first brought online bookshops to the people. Now it has brought e-books along with the device for reading them to the readers. E-books are steadily climbing the popularity charts and are very soon poised to take the world by storm. After the launch of the Kindle e-book reader, Amazon has now launched the Kindle 2 e-reader, which is a much better, more powerful, faster and sleeker device than the earlier reader.

Today more and more conventional books are being converted into e-books and with the introduction of the e-readers, we can find, procure and read all the books we want, anytime and anywhere. Just as celebrities like Oprah is inseparable from her e-book reader, the time is not far when ordinary citizens too would get addicted to electronic readers.

We can find and choose different brands of e-book readers in the market, but the most popular brands are the Amazon Kindle and the Sony PRS. The e-book readers of these companies are the most popular and widely used. Both of these companies have also launched their latest modified models. However, the popularity of the newly launched Kindle 2 from Amazon is way ahead of the Sony's PRS-700.

The huge popularity of the Kindle 2 is not without any reason though. It weighs just 10.2 ounces but that's enough to store as many as 1500 e-books, which means you have your entire library of books wherever you go. Battery life is a whopping 25% more in the Kindle 2 and would last up to 4 days on a single recharge and goes up to 2 weeks if the wireless is turned off. Then there are a host of other useful and convenient features like the smart and automatic cross device bookmarking, quick page turning, the adjustable text size and a screen dictionary, all of which makes for a very pleasant experience. All this at a price of around $350, which makes it extremely affordable.
Not one to rest on its laurels, Amazon went ahead and released an even more advanced and feature laden e-book reader the Kindle DX that took book reading to an altogether new level. To begin with, Kindle DX came with a screen that is 2 and half times bigger than that of the Kindle 2. This make Kindle DX's ideal for a broad range of reading material, including graphic-rich books, PDFs, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Images too are amazingly sharp on its 9.7" screen. Also, Kindle DX is completely wireless so there is no requirement of setup, cables, or computer. It can operate out of its own. And if needed, it can well be connected with a PC with the USB cable provided. No software is needed and files can be simply dragged and dropped. The built-in accelerometer means the DX can auto-rotate. So users can manually select which orientation they prefer. And for the exciting range of features that comes along with it, price goes up to $550.

Demand for the Kindle e-book reader is always high and Amazon is finding it tough to meet the demand. As a result, there is always a long queue. The company does not accept orders from abroad, though there are some third party retailers and distributors who sell the product to overseas customers, who are in turn, required to pay the shipping charges in addition to the actual cost. We can occasionally find the product in eBay, but usually at a premium price.

In addition to being a convenient medium to the people, e-book readers are also eco-friendly. We only have to think about the number of trees that have been spared after the induction of the e-book readers like the Kindle, and imagine about the savings made in the use of paper, if we consider all the other brands of e-books that are available in the market. The Whispersync has also enabled users of the iPhone and iPod Touches, which run into millions of people all over the world, to read e-books of Amazon.

By using the Kindle e-books, we can make some savings in our money also. This is because Amazon offers its Kindle books at subsidized rates and even allows free reading of the first few pages of the e-books so that you can choose wisely. Though it may be a clever idea of selling its e-book readers, it really helps in making a good choice while buying the e-books.
